Visitor Essentials

Orchid Island was formed by submarine volcanic eruptions, with its geological strata mainly consisting of andesitic lava and basaltic agglomerate. Through years of marine erosion and weathering, hard and erosion-resistant rock formations were left behind, creating various interesting and unique rock landscapes. Along the coast are scattered numerous rocks with diverse and varied shapes, which the Han Chinese have named based on their appearance, such as Double-Lion Rock, Battleship Rock, Helmet Rock, Elephant Trunk Rock, Dragon Head Rock, Old Man Rock, Steamed Bun Rock, Red Head Rock, Crocodile Rock, Tank Rock, Jade Maiden Rock, and Mother Hen Rock. Each of them is remarkably lifelike and vivid. Wondrous nature has freely sculpted the island's hard rocks as if playing with clay, transforming Orchid Island into an outdoor exhibition ground for large-scale stone sculpture art.
