Red Head Rock (like a water channel)

Orchid Island boasts a very rich natural ecosystem. Its unique geological features, combined with marine erosion and weathering, have resulted in numerous strangely shaped rock formations around the island, each steeped in local legends. Among these, Red Head Rock is named for its resemblance to the profile of a human head. When illuminated by the reddish glow of the setting sun and evening clouds, it appears like a red head lying on the sea. Viewed from the side of the cliff, it is also said to resemble a Native American (often referred to as a 'Red Indian'), thus contributing to its name. Orchid Island itself was also known as 'Red Head Island' in earlier times due to this very feature.
