Jhangyuan, formerly known as Gualut, is the northernmost village on the Taitung County coast. During Taiwan's colonial rule, it was an important camphor production area. To develop the camphor resources in the eastern region, the first Jhangyuan Bridge was built in 1937, spanning the Gualut River. Its exterior was constructed with cobblestones and features three arched piers, showcasing a rustic and natural charm.
