The Yuchang Highway is part of Provincial Highway 30. The section from Antong, Yuli Township, Hualien County, to Ningpu, Changbin Township, Taitung County, is known as the Yuchang Highway. Construction of the Yuchang Highway originally began in the late Qing Dynasty, excavated based on the ancient Antong Cross-Ridge Trail. It was further improved during the Japanese colonial period, and construction continued after World War II, finally opening to traffic in 2007. With a total length of 16.22 kilometers, it is the only highway that traverses the Coastal Mountain Range via a tunnel. The route offers beautiful scenery and expansive views. Travelers can enjoy the valley landscapes of the Coastal Mountain Range and overlook the endless Pacific Ocean, making it very popular among cyclists and scenic drivers.
