Indigenous Ancestors' Birthplace Monument

According to the oral legends of the Puyuma people, Taiwan was originally submerged at the bottom of the sea, with land connecting Lanyu (Orchid Island) and Ludao (Green Island). Later, the island of Taiwan emerged from the sea, and the land where they originally lived sank to the bottom of the sea. Even the sun and moon disappeared, leaving only five siblings alive. One boy was pushed into the sky and became the sun, one girl became the moon, while the other three (one boy and two girls) drifted to the mountains near Sanhe Village and Huayuan Village in Taimali Township, Taitung. This landing place was called 'Lukuva'an' or 'Panapanayan' by the tribal people, which means 'place of origin' or 'birthplace' in the Puyuma language. It is also the location of the Indigenous Ancestors' Birthplace Monument.
