Visitor Essentials

Dengxian Bridge is located on the south side of Dongfu Highway, spanning the deep and steep Mawu River Valley. During the Japanese colonial period, this place was also known as 'Shengxian Gorge' (昇仙峽), where an iron-chain suspension bridge, passable by ox-carts, was built. It was the predecessor of Dengxian Bridge and the only major transportation route connecting the Taiyuan Basin to the outside world. Next to the current Dengxian Bridge Recreational Area, there is also an old Dengxian Bridge, which was completed and opened to traffic in 1953. After the new bridge was completed, the old bridge was preserved and repurposed as a scenic bridge. The recreational area features an observation deck, a parking lot, guardrails, and walking trails. Both Dengxian Bridge Recreational Area and Taiyuan Valley are frequented by groups of Taiwanese macaques. They forage for food among the trees and often wander onto the bridge and railings, where visitors can observe them playing.
