Taiyuan Valley is located south of Provincial Highway 23 (Dongfu Highway), situated between Taiyuan Village and Donghe Village. It is named for its spectacular gorge scenery, carved out by the erosion of the Mawu River. The most picturesque section is from Dengxian Bridge to Taiyuan Village. The majestic deep gorges complement the abundant clear streams, earning it the nickname "Little Tianxiang." When driving through by car or scooter, the steep cliffs are incredibly close, allowing visitors to experience the fresh mountain air and cool breeze, and to listen to the chirping of birds and cicadas. Upon entering the Taiyuan Basin, the vast landscape of the basin is truly striking, with distant views of the verdant Coastal Mountain Range, a surprising and beautiful sight. The area around the gorge is also a habitat for Formosan macaques, where groups of monkeys can often be seen foraging and playing in the woods, their charming antics attracting many visitors for observation and photography.
