Beinan Grand Canal Waterfront Park

The Beinan Canal is an irrigation canal with a rich history. It was first constructed in Meiji 31 (1898) and has undergone numerous renovations. At that time, Beinan Township was designated a special administrative district, prohibiting Han Chinese from entering to cultivate land. It wasn't until Showa 11 (1936) that the Japanese, in need of military food supplies, initiated another major renovation. The project was completed in Showa 16 (1941), significantly expanding the canal's scale and subsequently leading to a large influx of Han Chinese settlers who established communities.
