Dalu Pass Stone Lions

The worship of stone lions is extremely rare in Hakka communities. Guangfu Village, formerly known as "Dalu Pass," has three stone lions that are majestic yet amusing, each with a distinct posture. Their robust and towering form is unique to Taiwan. It is said that over 200 years ago, when Hakka pioneers first settled and established the village, they faced continuous disasters such as floods, wild beasts, indigenous people, and strong westerly winds. To overcome these misfortunes and live in peace and prosperity, the villagers crafted the first stone lion. In 1856, a mountain flood erupted, burying the stone lion in mud and sand. It wasn't until 1984, when bridge workers heard the lion's cries and roars at night, that it was unearthed using heavy machinery and saw the light of day again. Subsequently, the villagers crafted two more stone lions in 1918 and 1965, respectively. Currently, the first stone lion stands in front of Shuntian Temple within the village, while the other two are located in Stone Lion Park, continuing to guard the mountain village.
