Pingtung Arts Center

Construction History: The Pingtung Arts Center was established following the Executive Yuan's 1548th council meeting on October 3, 1977, which directed the planning of cultural infrastructure and the establishment of cultural centers in every county and city, including libraries, museums, and concert halls. At that time, the county's cultural center was divided into two parts: the Arts Center and the Chung Cheng Library. In September 1975, a comprehensive arts center was constructed in this county through the Arts and Culture Foundation, with equal funding from the central, provincial, and local governments. Construction began on July 3, 1978, and the center was completed and opened on October 27, 1980, becoming the first cultural activity center in Taiwan. It has since promoted cultural and artistic activities in the county and significantly contributed to elevating local cultural and artistic standards. In 2020, renovation work was undertaken, including updates to theater equipment, adjustments to backstage and side stages, improved accessibility facilities, and a review and update of fire safety and building regulations, all aimed at providing a more comprehensive environment for public use. Building Facilities: The Pingtung Arts Center features one basement level and three above-ground floors. It covers a total area of approximately one hectare, with a building area of approximately 6,386 square meters (1932 ping). Inside, it houses a theater, stage, rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, and more. The theater has a seating capacity of 624. In addition to music concerts, the Arts Center is also suitable for dance, drama, film operas, and other dynamic artistic performances. It can also serve as a venue for cultural lectures and various arts and cultural events, fully leveraging its multi-purpose design.
