Pingtung County Park

In 1909, the Pingtung Sugar Refinery was established and began operations, stimulating industrial development on the land north of the Shashe River. The county government transformed part of the Taiwan Sugar Corporation (Taisugar) park land into the "Taisugar County Park," opening 9 hectares to the public on October 15, 2018. The park features a historic pulp mill, a fun and unique playground, a sugar industry-themed water feature, a large tree plaza, and a vast lawn, among other recreational spaces. The playground, nestled in a corner of the 20-hectare Pingtung County Park, offers a fun and challenging play experience. It includes a total of nine sets of swings, climbing frames, block-grid structures, and extreme spinners, designed to inspire and develop children's motor skills, providing an exciting experience different from other playgrounds. Embracing the natural elements of "water and green," the park creates diverse visual spaces by mimicking Pingtung's mountainous terrain and designing varied topography within the playground. The winding landscape waterways traversing the area resemble children playing amidst mountain forests and streams. Furthermore, by incorporating local distinctive elements such as Checheng onions and Laoying red beans, the County Park playground presents a new and unique appearance. A variety of play equipment has been designed to meet the needs of children of different ages and abilities, offering both individual-use and multi-person shared play structures, ensuring every child can find a suitable play space within the area. These include the "Little Wildlings Zone" with low-intensity play for preschoolers; the "Mountain King Zone" featuring a 7-meter-tall onion-shaped tower with local characteristics; the "Mountain Peak Platform" with exhilarating zip-line facilities; the "Youth Challenge Zone" with wooden extreme obstacle courses designed for older, energetic children; and the "Water Play Plaza" equipped with various water features such as water pumps, battling water cannons, tipping buckets, sprinklers, and an extra-long interactive water channel. These spaces allow children to enjoy multiple experiences in one visit. All ages are welcome to visit! To provide a more comfortable and enjoyable recreational space for county residents, the "Pingtung County Park," a project that took over 5 years and cost a total of NTD 390 million, officially opened on February 5, 2021. The county government revitalized and regenerated the abandoned 27-year-old Taiwan Sugar Corporation's old pulp mill remains, integrating a brand new Shashe River waterfront blue and green belt. This created Taiwan's first park centered around industrial heritage, combined with a waterfront corridor. The park's 20-hectare landscape complex incorporates historical, cultural, ecological, scenic, and waterfront characteristics. Its unique design has created a brand new landscape that bridges the past and present, allowing the old industrial site to be reborn as a diverse ecological recreational experience.
