Cai Qiutong Literary Museum

Born in Yunlin, Mr. Cai Qiutong was a Taiwanese literary writer and a politician. During the Japanese colonial period, he served as a local 'Baozheng' (head of a local administrative unit), earning him the title 'Baozheng Writer.' After the war, he also held positions as township chief and council member. His literary works were written in a mix of classical Chinese and Taiwanese vernacular, characterized by a strong local linguistic flavor. In his dual roles as Baozheng and sugar factory committee member, he left behind valuable documents, as well as images of the Cai family and early local life. These records simultaneously serve as a testament to the socio-cultural changes in rural society, becoming the most authentic historical accounts for understanding farmers' lives during the Japanese colonial period. The 'Cai Qiutong Literary Museum' was inaugurated on April 18, 2023 (ROC Year 112), commemorating Cai Qiutong's birthday. It is hoped that this opportunity will allow the public to gain a deeper understanding of Mr. Cai Qiutong's life and works, and in turn, discover more local literary creations in Yunlin. The museum is located within Xinyi Elementary School, and Wukuai Village, where the school is situated, is Mr. Cai Qiutong's hometown. He was instrumental in the founding of Xinyi Elementary School, donating land in 1958 (ROC Year 47) for its establishment. He deeply understood the importance of education for children and community development. Consequently, everything related to Xinyi Elementary School, including its campus, school anthem, emblem, and establishment, is closely connected to him.
