The 'Octagonal Pavilion-style Seed Warehouse' of the Tukou Township Farmers' Association, commonly known as the 'Octagonal Warehouse', was completed on November 30, 1961. This regular octagonal cement brick building stands in the central area of Yunlin County, an agriculturally rich region formerly known as 'Tukou'. Currently, only a few octagonal warehouses remain in Taiwan, with only three known to exist in Yunlin. Tukou Township is the only place where one is actively utilized, while most others are idle. It holds significant industrial, cultural, and historical value. All eight sides of the octagonal warehouse are equipped with louvered windows, and ventilation holes are set at the base of the walls. Stairs are located on both sides of the entrance, leading to a mezzanine, to facilitate the transport and placement of seeds inside the warehouse. The main door of the warehouse faces south. The upper level features high ventilating windows, and ventilation holes are located at the base of the walls. The interior walls for seed storage are first lined with sugarcane fiberboard and then with metal sheets, all designed to achieve ventilation, dryness, thermal insulation, and moisture protection, thereby ensuring the proper preservation of agricultural seeds. The octagonal architecture features excellent earthquake resistance, good ventilation and natural lighting, the shortest and most efficient internal circulation paths, and a sturdy, durable structure that approximates a circle.
