Niaosong Inn

Near Niaosong Junior High School in Shuilin Township, there is an unassuming little restaurant. Its exterior is decorated with bamboo, and a small sign reads "Niaosong Inn." Owner Huang Wen-chun returned to his hometown from the north seven years ago to open this restaurant, which quickly became a highly recommended culinary spot among locals. Huang Wen-chun, a man brimming with artistic flair, transformed his traditional three-sided courtyard home into a 1950s-style country restaurant. Posters of old singers, record player music, large red lanterns, antique furniture, and early government propaganda signs like "Report Communist Spies, Government Offers Rewards" – stepping inside feels like traveling back in time. The dishes served are all home-style cooking, and to ensure freshness, they insist on using local ingredients. "Food miles" are kept within five kilometers as much as possible, featuring ingredients like Kouhu eel, Taiwanese tilapia, local free-range chicken, and swamp eel. The backyard also cultivates vegetables and fruits like eggplants, chili peppers, and papayas for immediate use. In Huang Wen-chun's hands, these diverse local ingredients are creatively transformed into delicious dishes that capture the memories of food lovers.
