Huwei Cù Salon

An old house transforms into a salon, a new arts and culture hub in Huwei. Former legislator Wang Lih-ping spent two years renovating a 70-year-old "Shin-Asia style" old house, hidden in Huwei's urban area, transforming it into a base for promoting ecology, gender issues, and alternative globalization. This not only preserved a historical building for Yunlin but also added a salon that promotes art, culture, ecology, and gender equality. Huwei Cù Salon is tucked away in an alley in Huwei's urban area. It is a building that combines "Japanese style" and "Western flavor," built around the 1940s. Due to urban expansion, it became obscured among other buildings, and not many Huwei locals even knew about it. More than two years ago, Wang Lih-ping serendipitously purchased this building and, after undertaking its renovation, transformed it into a space for profound arts and culture development. Huwei Cù Salon is Yunlin County's first space to attempt integrating art, culture, ecology, environmental protection, and literature. Wang Lih-ping stated that Huwei Cù has preserved the beauty of this old building while also incorporating numerous contemporary art creations, embodying a spirit of contemplation and discussion, thereby preserving a public building of significant taste and value for Yunlin.
