Changhua Zhongxing New Village

Building Dreams, Blooming in Zhongxing New Village. Established in 1950, Zhongxing New Village, a military dependents' community nestled at the foot of Bagua Mountain, was primarily home to the soldiers and their families of General Gao Fangxian's Security Brigade from Qingdao, Shandong. They journeyed from Qingdao, Shandong to Taiwan, settling down in Zhongxing New Village. Having endured years of war, they continued to pass on a valiant and unyielding national spirit here. To preserve this glorious history, the Changhua County Government has been dedicated to promoting cultural heritage. Starting in 2009, they began researching the historical trajectory of Zhongxing New Village. In 2010, Zhongxing New Village was successfully registered as a historical building in Changhua County, making it the only well-preserved military dependents' village in Changhua. In 2012, it was selected by the Ministry of National Defense as a Military Dependents' Village Cultural Preservation Zone. In 2021, its registration was revised to 'settlement architectural group'. Following the completion of the first phase of the plaza and environmental improvement project in October 2022, the Changhua County Cultural Affairs Bureau revitalized the area through a public interest lease model, providing 6 units across 4 buildings as spaces for youth entrepreneurship. It officially commenced operations in January 2023, combining the surrounding landscape and local industrial characteristics to present a brand new appearance to local residents and visitors. The second phase of the entire area's restoration project is expected to be completed in 2025. In the future, it is hoped that the history of the military dependents' village will continue to extend and endure, recreating the 'Changhua flavor'.
