Wu Zhaoxun Calligraphy Museum

Lukang is primarily promoted for its 'three abundance': a wealth of historical sites, numerous cultural artisans, and an abundance of local snacks. As you stroll through its streets and alleys, you'll encounter 'calligraphy and painting,' an indispensable cultural heritage woven into daily life. Teacher Wu Zhao-Xun, a talented figure from Lukang, known by his courtesy name Dunben and art name Wanhão Sanren (Playful Brush Hermit), describes calligraphy as intrinsically linked to the evolution of written language. He views it as an Eastern art form that conveys thoughts and emotions, a centuries-old and glorious visual art that beautifully merges lively human spirit, diverse forms, and the profound connection between the soul and the natural world. For thousands of years, the Han people have immersed themselves in the vast and boundless realm of calligraphy, perceiving it as both an 'art' and a 'path'. In 2005, Teacher Wu was also honored with the Special Excellence Award in the social group category of the Presidential Office's New Year Calligraphy Competition.
