Craftsman: Huang Sha-Jung. Teacher Huang Sha-Jung was born in a rural village in Fuxing Township. In Minguo 102 (2013), he was recognized as a preserver of traditional woodcarving, a traditional craft of Changhua County. After graduating from elementary school, he apprenticed with a master to learn shrine carving. He once studied "ranma" (transom carving) craftsmanship at a Japanese company and skillfully applied "ranma" carving techniques to his works. In his 51-year woodcarving career, he has deftly used his hands, making woodcarving art an essence of local traditional culture. Teacher Huang's works often feature orchids as their theme. He utilizes the inherent tough grain of Taiwan's local stout camphorwood to express the orchid's unique delicate and graceful posture, masterfully capturing the tender and varied beauty of flowers. His carving prowess is evident. He has won the Huangxi Award at the Huangxi Art Exhibition, the first prize in the craft category at the 16th National Art Exhibition, and the second Da Dun Craftsman award, among many other accolades. Huang Sha-Jung Woodcarving Workshop is located in Fubao Dairy Cow Painted Village, Fuxing Township, Changhua County, near Turtle Park and a driftwood landmark.
