Craftsman: Shi Zhihui. Master Shi Zhihui was born in Lukang in 1935. From the age of 16, he followed his father, Shi Li, renowned as the 'Divine Carver,' to learn the art of deity sculpture and Zhuangfo (deity statue decoration), solidifying his fundamental skills. He has dedicated over seventy years to diligently researching carving and Zhuangfo craftsmanship. His Quanzhou-style Zhuangfo sculpture techniques emphasize structure, composition, proportion, delicate elegance, a steady and substantial style, and exquisite and splendid lacquer-thread craftsmanship. He has integrated and elevated these techniques, and his artistry is truly exceptional. In 2014, he received the 'Craft Achievement Award' from the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Center, Ministry of Culture, and the '2014 Taiwan Wood Sculpture Heritage Award' from Miaoli County Government. In 2011, he was recognized as a 'Living National Treasure' by the Council for Cultural Affairs (now Ministry of Culture), Executive Yuan. In 2009, he was registered by the Changhua County Government as a 'Preserver of Intangible Cultural Heritage/Traditional Craft – Zhuangfo.' In 1994, he received the 10th 'National Folk Art Heritage Award' from the Ministry of Education, among other honors. Shi Zhihe Art Workshop is located near attractions such as Lukang Mazu Temple, Lukang Old Street, and the Cultural and Arts Center.
