Baishakeng Wendegong Temple

Constructed during the Qing Dynasty's Qianlong era, it was initially known as 'Bao'an Temple.' During the Daoguang era, Zeng Weizhen, a local who achieved the esteemed position of Hanlin academician, renamed it 'Wendegong Temple.' This new name conveyed the meaning of 'protecting the local community and its people, while promoting cultural and moral education.' The emperor officially decreed that the Earth God of Hanlin Zeng's hometown would hold the same status as a Hanlin academician and bestowed an imperial black gauze cap upon it. This distinction makes it the only Earth God in Taiwan to be granted an imperial official rank. Additionally, Wendegong Temple's Lantern Festival parade, which has followed ancient rituals for over a century, was registered as a 'folk cultural asset' in 2008. After four instances of relocation and reconstruction, the temple has expanded, and its devout following has grown. It features the 'Gate of Rites' and 'Path of Righteousness' on its sides. Later, the 'Five Barracks Tower' was added to enshrine divine generals, and it now displays preserved artifacts, further enhancing its historical significance.
