Sage King Temple

The Guardian Temple of Zhangzhou People - Shengwang Temple is a National Historic Site, also known as Weihui Palace. It was founded in the 11th year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign during the Qing Dynasty (1732 AD). After being damaged by soldiers during the Chen Zhouquan incident, it underwent reconstruction during the Jiaqing and Guangxu periods. This ancient temple is dedicated to Chen Yuanguang, the Sage King who initiated the development of Zhangzhou, and serves as the guardian temple for Zhangzhou people within Changhua County. In the past, it was the spiritual center for the Zhangzhou community. Chen Yuanguang, a native of the Tang Dynasty, traveled from Guangzhou, Henan, to Fujian. For his significant contributions to the development of Zhangzhou, he was conferred the title of Weihui Sage King.
