The Gu Yue Folk Culture Museum was built on the ruins of the Tianhou Temple, which was demolished after being bombed during an air raid in World War II. Construction began in January 1994 (the first month of the Jiashen year) and lasted approximately two years, completing in May 1996 (the fifth month of the Bingshu year). The museum aims to preserve Taiwan's traditional culture through small-scale investment and clever planning, making the most of its limited space for an extensive collection.
