The Huamei Daodong Academy National Historic Site, founded in 1857 (the seventh year of the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty), is one of the most complete ancient academies still existing in Taiwan. In recent years, it has been restored with replaced beams and pillars, regaining its former appearance. The academy is adjacent to Huamei Junior High School and Elementary School. The central hall houses the memorial tablet of Zhu Wengong (Zhu Xi) and a statue of Kui Xing (God of Literature). The east wing enshrines the longevity tablets of those who contributed to its various renovations, while the west wing is dedicated to Fude Zhengshen (Tudigong, Earth God). It also features a large section of mottled original timber used during its initial construction. The courtyard is spacious and lush with greenery, and people often visit for recreation and relaxation from dawn till dusk.
