Bagua Mountain Great Buddha Scenic Area

The Bagua Mountain Great Buddha sits enthroned atop Bagua Mountain, gazing benevolently over Changhua with downcast, compassionate eyes. It is a familiar and revered sight for those approaching Changhua City and for locals alike. Having transcended mere religion, it has become a significant landmark in Changhua County, attracting a continuous stream of visitors and making it a must-visit destination. The Great Buddha, with its solemn and majestic form, was completed in 1961. It was once among Taiwan's top ten most popular tourist attractions and a common feature in school excursions and graduation trips. From north to south, almost everyone has a commemorative photo with the Great Buddha, intertwining countless memories and adding to its historical legacy. The Bagua Mountain Great Buddha Scenic Area has progressively developed over more than half a century. In addition to the majestic Sakyamuni Buddha statue, the surrounding area boasts rich recreational resources. Upon entering the scenic area, visitors are greeted by a grand archway leading to the "Path to the Buddha." At the top of the steps, the view opens up to what appears like a sky adorned with trees, while thirty-two carved stone statues of Guanyin (Avalokitesvara) line both sides, guiding visitors upward to a state of calm and introspection. As one walks and their gaze shifts to the right, they suddenly behold the magnificent 22-meter-tall Sakyamuni Buddha seated on a lotus throne, inspiring awe and joyous praise. This Great Buddha was once the largest in Asia.
