Centennial Ponds

Ponds (Pítáng) once played a crucial role in the reclamation history of Sanwan. Due to the terrain, irrigation water sources here were at the end of the line, making it impossible to maintain a consistent water supply. As a result, people at the time dug many ponds for agricultural cultivation. After the construction of the Yongheshan Reservoir, the importance of these ponds greatly diminished. Coupled with the decline of agriculture due to changing times, these ponds gradually disappeared. In recent years, to preserve this important landscape feature, residents of Beipu Village have transformed the ponds, highlighting their cultural significance, into a recreational agricultural tourist attraction. Among them, the 'Sanlian Ponds' (Three Connected Ponds) are the largest, formed by the connection of Guanyin Pond, Liwu Pond, and Dahuangpu Pond, and have a history of over a hundred years since their excavation. The revitalization of the pond landscape has not only enhanced the appearance of Beipu Village but also led to the addition of leisure trails and bicycle paths in the surrounding areas. Additionally, related activities are planned to attract visitors to experience recreational agriculture and admire the scenery of this waterside rural village.
