Built in Meiji 36 (1903), the Gongweixu Tunnel is located next to Maoli Mountain Park. The northern entrance of the 460-meter-long tunnel features three large characters, "Gongweixu", inscribed by Kodama Gentaro, the then Governor-General of Taiwan. In 1998, the tunnel was decommissioned due to the opening of the double-track mountain railway line. To preserve this valuable railway cultural heritage, the county government renovated the tunnel and later added colorful LED light decorations. Walking through the tunnel is not only very cool and refreshing, but the fantastical and vibrant light show also elicits continuous exclamations of awe!
