Yingcai Academy

Yingcai Academy (formerly Minnan Academy) has a total site area of 9270 square meters (approximately 3000 ping) and a building area of 1387 square meters (approximately 420 ping). The planning and design of the academy draws inspiration from Minnan architectural vocabulary and the spirit of academies from various regions, while adhering to principles of honoring the ancient, emulating the ancient, and creativity. For instance, elements related to traditional geography and architectural scale follow the principle of honoring the ancient; architectural space, structure, and appearance adopt the principle of emulating the ancient; and the literary ambiance of the ponds, bridges, and garden landscapes embraces the principle of creativity. Regarding sustainable operation, the hope is to center it on the transmission of cultural classics, with cultural and artistic activities encompassing various fields such as history, art, cultural and creative industries, and holistic well-being, thus becoming a 'living historical building' and 'living ancient monument'. By integrating local educational resources from neighboring Zaoqiao and Houlong Townships, a Minnan-style academy with functions of 'lecturing, temple worship, and student instruction' has been created. The internal layout includes Wenchang Shrine, Dacheng Hall, lecture halls, static exhibition areas, dynamic exhibition areas, and open spaces, emphasizing the academy as a social education institution with Minnan cultural characteristics. It aims to establish a Minnan cultural and local education center for the county, incorporating ecological and sustainable park design, and, through the integration of regional educational resources, provide the public with a high-quality environment for learning, recreation, ecology, environmental protection, and education. The ancient saying goes, 'Approaching a stream inspires far-reaching thoughts.' Yingcai Academy is situated by the clear waters of Beishi Creek. Visitors can first stroll along the creek-side path to calm their minds, then gaze down at the arched bridge and the reflection of white clouds in the pond. Afterwards, they can walk along the book-fragrant avenue's arched bridge to admire the beauty of the academy's red-tiled, white-walled architecture. Upon entering the gatehouse and stepping into the academy's tranquil courtyard, the hustle and bustle of the mundane world feels separated by layers of walls. Only the clear voices of students reading aloud can be heard, sound after sound reaching the ears. This is the humanistic ambiance that Yingcai Academy offers its visitors, and it is also the vision of the Miaoli County Government in establishing Yingcai Academy.
