Tongxing Old Street

Tongxing Old Street was Houlong's earliest street, serving as a collection center where Han Chinese and Pingpu indigenous people exchanged local products. Later, as the Houlong River gradually silted up, the Han Chinese developed the riverbanks into farmland, and the population grew, forming Houlong Street, which is now the city center. To the east of Tongguang Elementary School, there is a small ditch. In the past, the river water was crystal clear, and Pingpu women would wash clothes in this ditch, so it was called "Fanpozai Ditch" (Indigenous Women's Ditch). During the prosperous period of Gongsiliao Port, Tongxing Old Street was the liveliest street. Today, it has become an old street full of antique charm, and the early commercial buildings along the street reveal the role the Houlong River estuary once played in the exchange of trade goods.
