The Hakka earth buildings (Tulou) scattered across Fujian are unique large-scale residences in the world, acclaimed as treasures of traditional Chinese dwellings. They have been listed as a World Cultural Heritage site and are recognized as the most representative Hakka cultural buildings; seeing a Tulou immediately brings Hakka to mind. The 'Hakka Round Building,' shaped like a Tulou, not only highlights Miaoli's local Hakka cultural characteristics but also integrates the beautiful scenery of the riverside promenade, a result of the Beishixi River remediation project. It creates a splendid facade for Miaoli, showcasing its exquisite local artistic and cultural features. The Hakka Round Building is located near Miaoli HSR Station, in the most prime area of the entire riverside promenade, earning it the title 'Heart of Beishixi River.' Its architectural form imitates the original Tulou style from mainland China, rich in Hakka flavor. It also features a circular pondside trail, a scenic curved platform, an entrance plaza, and a waterfront boardwalk, among other rich recreational facilities. The Hakka Round Building occupies an area of 1,385 square meters, with a total floor area of 3,476 square meters. It is structured with one basement level and three above-ground levels, appearing as a circular architectural structure when viewed from above. The planning of the Hakka Round Building is centered on local Hakka culture. As Miaoli is a key hub for Hakka opera and music development, it is positioned as a themed venue for Hakka opera and music, hosting related performances and activities, and inviting performing groups to reside, allowing the public to enjoy and learn. The main body of the first floor of the Hakka Round Building is a circular performance theater, with large characters for 'Hakka Opera Stage' on the stage, floral fabric lanterns hanging on both sides, and rustic wooden benches for audience seating. The second floor is primarily exhibition space, housing the 'Hakka Opera Museum,' 'Hakka Music Museum,' and 'City Cultural Exchange Exhibition,' which are static displays. The third floor features a DIY workshop classroom and a multimedia interactive zone, where virtual synthesis technology allows visitors to take commemorative photos with famous Miaoli attractions and buildings. The basement level serves as a multimedia screening room, playing relevant videos. To provide more diverse services, the Hakka Round Building also includes an affiliated restaurant and a gift shop, specializing in Hakka flavors and unique local creative products, allowing visitors to taste and experience Miaoli's authentic local customs. Around the 'Hakka Round Building,' nighttime lighting facilities have also been installed.
