Taian Chuhuo Tribal Plaza

Zhongxing Village in Taian Township is home to indigenous communities such as Xidaobang, Chuhuo, and Simaxian. Both the Chuhuo and Simaxian communities have access to natural underground gas. Villagers utilize this year-round, continuous free energy by piping the gas to their homes or workshops for cooking bamboo shoots, drying clothes, preparing meals, bathing, boiling water, and more. Due to the long pipeline route, residents of the Simaxian community use it less frequently. However, the Chuhuo community, with its convenient piping access, has more than five households connected. The Chuhuo community also gets its name from the fire that has emerged from the ground for many years. To promote tribal tourism, the county government and indigenous council members secured funding from the central government to transform the Chuhuo Plaza, which previously only featured simple rock arrangements, and to improve the surrounding environment. The Taian Chuhuo Tribal Plaza now features 6 fire pits arranged in a staggered manner, with designs incorporating Atayal tribal totems, full of indigenous charm. The 'fire' from the plaza's 6 fire pits burns continuously 'all year round,' making it the first plaza in Miaoli County to feature emerging fire. Every May and June, many tourists visit 'Chuhuo' to witness the phenomenon and observe fireflies. Additionally, in the future, it will be used in conjunction with local churches for religious ceremonies and as a venue for tribal harvest festival celebrations.
