Shanjiao Elementary School

Shanjiao Village is situated at the intersection and transition point between the mountains and the sea, and also happens to be the geographical center of Yuanli Township. This led to a significant population gathering over thirty years ago, with numerous small and medium-sized factories and shops, developing into a bustling town. Furthermore, backed by Huoyanshan (Flame Mountain), the area boasts high-quality soil suitable for making bricks and tiles, which contributed to the glorious history of its brick and tile kiln industry. The skilled hands of local women also found a stage for the rush weaving industry. However, with the changes of time, the once prosperous brick and tile kiln industry and rush weaving are no longer what they used to be. Local residents, concerned that population outflow would hinder local development, voluntarily established the "Miaoli County Yuanli Township Shanjiao Community Development Association" in 2004 (Republic of China year 93). They identified and integrated the community's unique characteristics, redeveloping distinctive industries such as rush weaving, brick carving art, and rice farming. Currently, under the dedicated management of the association, Shanjiao Community has found new avenues. In addition to regularly organizing DIY workshops and related exhibitions, it also offers guided tours of cultural attractions, establishing itself as a cultural community that showcases local characteristics.
