Shengxing Pottery Workshop (formerly Shiliufen Cultural Hall)

As the train's steam whistle blew, the train slowly glided into the station. Many people arrived, many departed; some reunited, some parted ways. The platform always witnessed different stories unfolding. At the station, there were vendors hawking their wares, travelers chatting, and the sound of trains departing. Today, these sounds have fallen silent, leaving only the laughter and conversations of visitors reminiscing about the past glory. This place is the Shiliufen Cultural Hall on Sanyi's Old Mountain Line, also famously known as Shengxing Station. Shengxing Station, designed and built by the Japanese, reveals unique features upon close inspection: the beams and roof resemble bagua (eight trigrams) and spearheads, while the eaves are serrated. It's said that these designs incorporate feng shui considerations. Surrounded by nine Guandao Mountain foothills resembling tiger heads, the station's architectural design includes elements symbolizing weapons to ward off evil and pacify the 'nine tigers,' thereby ensuring peace. Regardless of the veracity of these feng shui claims, these designs certainly distinguish the station's style from others. Since its completion, Shengxing Station has withstood several major earthquakes and remains well-preserved. It has now been designated a Class 3 County-level Historic Site. The station's ticket counter, waiting benches, and railings still retain their Japanese colonial era appearance, while the station office preserves the scene from before the train service ceased, full of historical charm. Many Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) artifacts are preserved inside, with a prominent red electric tablet block instrument being the most eye-catching. This device, an essential railway safety mechanism, was crucial for ensuring passenger safety. Today, Shengxing Station stands as the most important cultural asset of the Old Mountain Line. This small station is filled with a strong nostalgic atmosphere, consistently attracting numerous tourists and railway enthusiasts.
