Maozai Po Qingqian Di

Qingqian Di is located in Maozai Po, Wuhu Village, Xihu Township, on the north side of Provincial Highway 119. It is the ancestral home of Mr. Zhang Qingsiu, the ninth township chief of Xihu Township. Qingqian Di was first built during the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi era and has a history of over a hundred years. It has undergone multiple renovations, with the most recent major reconstruction around 1954 (Republic of China year 43). From the outside, it appears to be a spacious brick-paved Sanheyuan (three-sided compound) building. However, upon closer inspection, its layout, beams, pillars, and ancestral shrine possess a unique style that sets it apart from typical traditional Hakka residences. The entire house is structured in the shape of the Chinese character '昌' (chāng), symbolizing the family's prosperity and flourishing. It is divided into a main hall, left and right wing rooms, and two courtyards. Above the main entrance of the main hall are the three large characters '青錢第' (Qingqian Di). On either side stand two antique stone pillars. The dougongs (bracket sets) and beams on the pillars are intricately carved and possess an ancient charm. The layout of Qingqian Di is grand, surrounded by lush forests and tall bamboo, creating an elegant ambiance. Being immersed in this environment easily evokes a sense of historical nostalgia, truly making it an ancient house worth preserving.
