A Japanese colonial era relic ~ a Japanese-style building with historical significance. Tongxiao Shrine, exuding a strong Japanese shrine atmosphere and authentic Japanese character, is located within Hutou Mountain Park and was built in 1937. Currently, only the main hall's foundation, the ruins of the heiden (offering hall), the sando (approach path), the haiden (worship hall), the torii gate, and the shamusho (shrine office) remain. Although the mountain's elevation is less than 100 meters, the expansive views offer a panoramic overlook of Tongxiao's streets. Ascending the long pathway provides a delightful experience. Located on Tongxiao's Hutou Mountain, Tongxiao Shrine suffered years of erosion and damage, leaving its architectural facade almost in ruins. Recently, the Miaoli County Bureau of Cultural Affairs completed its renovation, restoring the shrine's grandeur to almost exactly its original complete appearance, if not enhancing it. Furthermore, on June 19, 2005 (Republic of China year 94), the township office held a dedication ceremony for 'Miaoli County Historic Building – Rediscovering the New Look of Tongxiao Shrine' in front of the shrine, celebrating with a series of lively activities.
