Quanming Eco-Educational Sericulture Farm

Located in a tranquil corner of the Shihtan Valley in Miaoli, what were once terraced rice paddies began cultivating mulberry trees and raising plump silkworms in the late 1970s, driven by government initiatives. This marked the beginning of a professional sericulture life. Initially, round cocoons were produced, then production shifted to flat cocoons. By 1991, due to changes in government agricultural policy, the sericulture industry was abolished, and there was no longer anyone to purchase raw silk. Faced with a vast green mulberry orchard and an uncertain future, the farm owner was determined to preserve this valuable historical industry in Taiwan, allowing Taiwanese children to witness adorable silkworms. This led to the establishment of the 'Quanming Eco-Educational Sericulture Farm'. Thousands of silkworms are raised in the eco-friendly mulberry orchard, free from pesticide pollution. Visitors can observe the silkworms eating mulberry leaves, slowly growing, spinning silk, pupating, and eventually emerging as moths. In the courtyard, lovely insects and small animals can be seen flying and scurrying around. At dusk, fireflies will accompany us, and if you're lucky, you might even spot large wild silkworms! With over 20 years of silkworm rearing experience, Quanming is currently Taiwan's only professional silkworm breeding farm and a designated demonstration and teaching site by the Miaoli County Government. From basic mulberry cultivation and silkworm rearing to allowing visitors to personally participate in the process of making handmade flat silk quilts, the farm provides professional, engaging, and easy-to-understand guided explanations. This ensures the public gains a deep and complete understanding of silkworm ecology and experiences the wondrous world of silkworms.
