Yongzhen Temple

Yongzhen Temple is located in Tianliao Village, Toufen City, just over a kilometer from Zhunan Township. The temple is grand yet unpretentious, with ancient banyan trees providing shade in front, creating a very tranquil environment. During the Qing Dynasty, Grand Scholar Xu Yingjian (courtesy name Fengnan) initiated the construction of Tianliao Yongzhen Temple in the third year of Xianfeng (1853). After its completion, its sacred spirit shone brightly, attracting residents from Toufen, Sanwan, Nanzhuang, Emei, Beipu, Zaoqiao, Zhunan, as well as Hsinchu and Miaoli, who came to worship, fostering a benevolent spirit among the people. The temple primarily worships Mazu (Heavenly Holy Mother). Inside the main hall, the sculpture of Mazu is solemn and dignified. To the right is enshrined the majestic statue of Guangze Zunwang, a guardian deity of Quanzhou immigrants, indicating that Yongzhen Temple's devotees come from both Minnan and Cantonese backgrounds. To the left is Guanyin Bodhisattva. Next to the Mazu statue, the deity tablet of Faxiao Xianren (Immortal Faxiao) is also enshrined, which is a rare and pioneering practice among Mazu temples throughout Taiwan. In the side halls, Wenchang Dijun (God of Literature), Fude Zhengshen (Earth God), and tablets for longevity are enshrined. The interior of the hall is resplendent with golden light, and all the carvings are exquisitely crafted. Important ceremonial events are held three times a year: 23rd day of the 2nd lunar month - Mazu's Birthday. 8th day of the 4th lunar month - Mazu's Procession. 15th day of the 7th lunar month - Ghost Festival (Zhongyuan Pudu).
