Mingde Reservoir was formed by a dam built in a valley created by the Shitan River cutting through the Bajiaodong Mountain Range. Surrounded by mountains with a vast body of water, its clear waters reflect the surrounding hills, creating a beautiful and picturesque landscape. It is a famous tourist attraction in Miaoli. Rixin Island, located in the middle of Mingde Reservoir, is surrounded by the lake on all sides and is accessible via Bridge No. 1 and Suspension Bridge No. 2. Walking on the suspension bridge offers panoramic views of the lake and the beauty of the surrounding wilderness. Especially when mist envelops the lake, the ethereal mountain scenery and the mirror-like water resemble a traditional ink wash painting. On an islet within Mingde Reservoir, there is also the famous century-old Yongchun Temple. Built in 1847, Yongchun Temple was originally named "Haitang Temple" and was renamed "Yongchun Temple" in the tenth year of Xianfeng (1860). From the platform in front of the temple, one can overlook Minghu Sudi (Ming Lake Su Embankment). Following the path next to the temple leads to the Minghu Sudi Trail, which is approximately 400 meters long. Both sides of the trail are home to diverse plant life, such as metasequoia, weeping willows, and mountain cherries. Its scenic beauty often attracts many visitors to spend their afternoons here.
