Tongxiao Araki Art Studio was founded in 1966. Its predecessor was the Oriental Wood Carving Art Studio, which was renamed Araki Art Studio in 1969. It is a long-established wood carving factory in Tongxiao, having witnessed the flourishing wood carving industry in Tongxiao during the 1960s, and is one of the few wood carving factories still operating today. In 1994, Araki Art Studio established its art center, introducing traditional Chinese large-scale woodworking and carving techniques. It showcases wood-carved Buddha statues, root carvings, openwork carvings, and various wooden craft items for daily life. Combined with tours of the wood carving workshop and DIY carving craft activities, it has become a well-known local cultural and artistic attraction. In the wood carving exhibition area, visitors can admire solemn statues of deities and Buddhas, as well as numerous functional craft items. The exquisite craftsmanship is truly eye-opening. The workshop area has preserved complete production equipment, basic woodworking tools, wood carving templates, and carving implements, offering a glimpse into the wood carving process. For those who wish to try their hand at wood carving, there is also a DIY area where you can carve items such as pen holders, bookshelves, or masks of the Five-Way Gods of Wealth. Essentially, the Araki Art Center has transformed a traditional wood carving factory into a Buddhist art center and a sanctuary for cultural heritage.
