Gongxun Ceramics Company was the predecessor of Wugu Culture Village, established during the heyday of the decorative ceramics industry. In its early days, Gongxun Ceramics Company rented an abandoned traditional three-sided courtyard house and renovated it into a workshop. Initially, it entered the ceramics industry by operating as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for other major factories, assisting with firing, refurbishment, slip casting, painting, and even shipping for other factories, a period which lasted at least two years. Subsequently, it gradually began taking its own orders. When orders were abundant, it also assisted other small home factories by forming alliances and allocating a portion of orders, with its scale continuously expanding as the economy developed. In the 1980s, the volume of orders increased significantly, and the small workshop became insufficient. Therefore, a new factory building (the current location) was purchased. The new factory also transitioned from manual slip casting to automatic slip casting, and the shuttle kilns were replaced by tunnel kilns. Presently, Gongxun Ceramics Company – under the leadership of General Manager Hsu Yung-Huan, driven by a deep love for his hometown and the desire to keep roots in Taiwan, and with a commitment to sustainable industrial development – established 'Wugu Culture Village'. This venture showcases Miaoli's decorative ceramics culture and its interdependent production model, integrating leisure tourism and cultural heritage. It merges 'tradition,' 'modernity,' and 'decorative ceramics art' to become a landmark and tourist gateway for Miaoli. In the future, by combining Miaoli's 'decorative ceramics art,' 'Hakka cultural landscape,' and the cultural and historical background of the 'spirit of five grains,' the village will actively invest to meet future tourism demands. It will continue to promote the development of exquisite, aesthetically pleasing, and high-quality products, creating new added value, shaping Wugu Culture Village's premium image, and elevating it to become an internationally renowned brand – a vision for sustainable operation and a brilliant future.
