Shuimei Wood Sculpture Street

Sanyi's streets are centered around Zhongzheng Road, lined with numerous carving shops. Nearly half of the local residents make a living from wood carving. The main wood materials come from places like Dasyueshan, Alishan, Fengyuan, Zhushan, and Zhudong, primarily camphor wood, but also cypress and sandalwood. The most distinctive aspect of Sanyi's wood carving is that the masters are skilled at adapting to the natural form of the wood, often carving directly from large logs or creating many lively and natural works, giving them new life. Currently, Sanyi's wood carving shops are concentrated in Shuimei. From the Sanyi interchange off the highway, follow Provincial Highway 3 for about 1 kilometer to reach it. Over 200 art shops are gathered here, some even having their workshops behind the stores. This convenient location attracts many buyers, making it the primary trading hub for Sanyi wood carving. Walking along Shuimei Street, visitors are captivated by a dazzling array of works, from rugged Bodhidharma statues and solemn Guanyin figures to lifelike small animals.
