Houcuo Longfeng Temple

"Longfeng Temple" offers a beautiful journey of religion and art! Officially founded in the 16th year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1836 AD), Longfeng Temple primarily worships Mazu (Heavenly Holy Mother) and boasts a flourishing incense tradition. It is known as the "Outer Mazu," complementing Zhonggang Ciyou Temple, which is referred to as the "Inner Mazu." This historic Longfeng Temple can truly be described as a treasure trove! The temple's most striking architectural feature is its magnificent Mazu statue, standing 136 feet tall (approximately the height of a 12-story building). On a clear day, gazing from the top of the statue offers a breathtaking view of the vast and majestic Taiwan Strait. The vibrant *jiannian* (cut-and-paste ceramic reliefs) and *jiaozhi* ceramic decorative arts, along with the exquisite and technically skilled *caisson* ceilings, regular ceilings, *dougong* (bracket sets), and stone carvings, push the temple's architectural artistry to its peak! Longfeng Temple also preserves numerous ancient plaques and artifacts, many over a century old. Among its most cherished treasures, worth detailed appreciation, are the "Stone Incense Burner from the Qing Daoguang Period," the "Bronze Incense Burner made during the Xuande Reign of the Great Ming Dynasty," the "Gourd-shaped Medicine Divination Slips," and the ancient Longquan Well, which is as old as the temple itself.
