Dashanbei Qilin Trail

The Qilin Trail, located in Tianliao Village, Dashanbei, is part of the Dashanbei trail network, which includes trails like the Daqizhong Ancient Trail, Qilong Ancient Trail, and Chating Ancient Trail. The Dashanbei area is well-known for its rich natural ecology, serving as a frequent destination for Hsinchu's conservation groups for nature observation, and is one of the regular observation points for the Society for Wilderness Preservation. The initial section features a gentle ascent of brick paths and stone steps, flanked by pristine, ecologically diverse forests. Along the way, you can admire the vibrant mountain cherry blossoms and overlook the Feifeng Mountain Range. Upon reaching the pavilion, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Shangping Stream and the Zhudong urban area. The path then turns into a steep mountain trail; the 45-degree 'Hero Slope' requires ropes for assistance to ascend to the summit of Tianliao Mountain, which stands at an elevation of 647 meters. The summit is within the forest, offering no triangulation station and no panoramic view. You can descend via the same route or complete a loop by descending from Beiwo. If time permits, you can also visit attractions such as the Qilong Ancient Trail, Daqizhong Ancient Trail, and the Glutinous Rice Ancient Bridge. Qilin Trail Difficulty: Low-Moderate.
