Visitor Essentials
The Xiuluan Battleship Rock Trail is a fascinating route that combines magnificent natural landscapes with historical and cultural relics. The trailhead is located in the Yufeng River valley, where the turquoise waters of the Yufeng River converge with the Baishi River and Taigang River. Standing majestically at this confluence is a magnificent giant rock – Battleship Rock – whose imposing form resembles a battleship about to set sail, making it a classic landmark in this scenic area. From Xiuluan Road, walk to the Battleship Rock Suspension Bridge, which offers the best vantage point to admire the majestic presence of the giant rock. If you wish to experience it up close, you can descend a small path through the bamboo forest on the left to get even closer to the rock's grandeur. After crossing the suspension bridge, the trail leads into a historical exploration of the Tunyesheng Artillery Fort Ruins. Follow the steep stone steps through the bamboo forest, gradually entering a primitive mountain path, embarking on a journey through time. This was an important outpost during the Japanese colonial period, preserving the remnants of the Aiyong Detachment outpost, with a pavilion nearby for visitors to rest. The Tunyesheng Artillery Fort Ruins cover a wide area, meticulously preserving facilities such as trenches, barracks foundations, and training grounds, bearing witness to the history of Japanese police monitoring the Atayal people in the Jianshi mountainous region. If you're still eager for more, you can continue along the mountain path to Mount Zhishengmaotai and descend via the Yufeng Village route, concluding this wonderful adventure that blends nature and history. Trail Type: Suburban Mountain Trail. Difficulty: Low. Length: 2.2 km (one way). Surface Conditions: Stone steps, flagstone paths, suspension bridge, wooden sleepers, and dirt mountain trails. Trailhead: At the entrance to the Battleship Rock Suspension Bridge on Xiuluan Road, Jianshi Township.
