Beideraman Giant Tree Group

Mount Beideraman, also known as Bird's Beak Mountain (Niaozuishan), is regarded by the Atayal people of Hsinchu as a "sacred mountain" and symbolizes local culture and nature. This mountain not only boasts magnificent natural landscapes but is also one of the traditional holy sites for the Atayal people. The tribe fiercely protects this territory, not easily allowing outsiders to enter. It was once a place where Atayal youth underwent trials of courage and wisdom, an important part of their coming-of-age. The sacred trees of Mount Beideraman consist of a precious group of low-altitude red cypress trees, with ages traceable back 3,000 to 4,000 years. These ancient red cypresses have survived to this day because, during the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese considered the 'hinoki' (cypress) shape unattractive, and the area was rarely visited, thus it remained undamaged. This well-preserved group of cypresses not only possesses extremely high ecological value but is also one of Taiwan's most renowned low-altitude giant cypress tree clusters. In terms of both scale and scenery, it rivals other high-altitude trails. Ascending to the summit of Mount Beideraman, the view is breathtaking. The surrounding mountains, enveloped in clouds and mist, resemble a traditional landscape painting with varying shades and depths. The hazy sea of clouds adds a layer of mystery and vastness to this natural wonder. Standing at the peak, quietly enjoying this expansive beauty, one becomes completely immersed in the embrace of nature, an unforgettable experience. This sacred mountain area, with its immensely valuable historical and cultural cypress tree group, also serves as an ideal place for adventure and contemplation due to its magnificent sea of clouds and mountain views.
