Qingquan Hot Spring

Qingquan Hot Spring boasts a prominent history, originally serving as a settlement for the Atayal and Saisiyat indigenous tribes. Hot springs were discovered here as early as 1913, when Japanese police named it 'Inoue Hot Spring'. It earned the delightful reputation of 'Qingquan Test Bath' and was later designated one of Hsinchu's Eight Scenic Spots. Qingquan Hot Spring features several spring sources with a water temperature of approximately 48°C, classifying it as a sodium bicarbonate spring. The spring water has a pH value of about 7.7, making it a neutral carbonic acid spring, a type rarely found in Taiwan. According to traditional remedies, this water is believed to have therapeutic effects on skin diseases, arthritis, and other ailments, effectively soothing both body and mind. This is why Qingquan Hot Spring is affectionately known as 'General's Soup', with legends stating that Zhang Xueliang once bathed here to enjoy its healing and relaxing properties. The main spring outcrop is conveniently located next to Zhang Xueliang's former residence. The local government has thoughtfully diverted the spring water to create a public hot spring foot bath area. This spacious foot bath allows visitors to enjoy the warm water massaging their feet while taking in the beautiful surrounding scenery of Qingquan. The majestic mountains, clear rivers, and lush greenery all contribute to a refreshing experience, fostering a sense of relaxation and tranquility.
