Dahukou Public School was founded in 1906 (Meiji 39). At that time, it was the sole educational institution in the Hukou and Xinfeng districts, and also served as the cradle for nurturing talent in both areas. Today, Xinhu Elementary School, Hukou Elementary School, Xinfeng Elementary School, and Fenggang Elementary School all originated as branches from it and later became independent, making it truly the predecessor of many schools. Unfortunately, when the school was abolished in 1935 (Showa 10), the school buildings were not properly preserved. After decades of weathering and erosion, the original appearance of the school campus was completely lost. Fortunately, two brick pillars of the school gate still stand firm, serving as witnesses to history. Local Hukou residents, led by Mr. Chen Sen-mao, recognized the importance of preserving historical sites and stepped forward. They donated funds to purchase the original school site, measuring 47 ping, which was jointly owned by 12 landlords. They are also preparing to donate this land to the local government, hoping that through the joint efforts of the government and the private sector, the former appearance of Dahukou Public School will be restored for future generations to see.
