Beipu Zhongshu Hall

Zhongshu Hall, built in 1922, was the residence of Beipu's first *wenxiucai* (a scholar who passed the imperial examinations at the county level) during the Qing Dynasty. The strength and beauty of its traditional architecture fully embody the rich cultural heritage of Beipu. This East-meets-West architectural marvel features a beautiful Baroque-style archway next to the entrance, whose unique appearance is hard to miss. Inside, it is a traditional *sanheyuan* (three-sided compound) residence. From its exterior walls to its roof ridges and beams, exquisite craftsmanship is evident throughout, making it a highly representative scholar's home of its era. The masonry work, in particular, is superb, with delicate decorative techniques showcasing the aesthetic skill of traditional artisans and blending Chinese and Western styles to create a truly diverse and rich architectural character. Its preservation and revitalization not only uphold the spirit of Beipu's traditional architecture but also provide a valuable historical setting for local cultural development.
