Zhubei Tongdetang

Zhubei's Donghai Village was originally named Donghaiku. Before flood control projects were implemented on the Touqian River, its streams overflowed and branched out, forming a large pond southwest of the area referred to as "Donghai". The pond water was abundant and vast, like a sea. At that time, Liujia was a grassroots administrative center with a larger population, and since this pond was located to its east, people referred to it as "Donghaiku," which is how the village got its name. Development of the area began around the Qianlong era. The Zheng family ancestors, originally from Raoping, Guangdong, developed in the Zhubei and Qionglin Xiashan areas after arriving in Taiwan, and established an ancestral hall in Qionglin Xiashan. Yingyang Hall was built around the first year of the Taisho era. The Zheng family ancestors operated a rice mill and were a prominent local family. When their economic means allowed, they constructed a residence with one main hall and four wings. Both the materials and craftsmanship used were meticulously chosen, making it a representative mansion in the area.
