Zhubei Dongping Wenlitang Hall

Dongping Wenlitang Hall is a preserved building located within the Zhubei High-Speed Rail Special Zone, also serving as the residence of the Lin family. When the high-speed rail acquired the land, the building was preserved due to its integrity and distinctive features, leading to its registration as a historic building in 2007. Built in 1934, Dongping Wenlitang Hall originally had a 'one hall and one transverse wing' layout. It was expanded in 1939 to its current 'one hall and three transverse wings' configuration. Further additions and modifications were made by 1949 due to family division, bringing it to its present scale. The building's roof features the 'Five Tigers Descending the Mountain' style, and a surrounding wall separates the interior from the exterior. Two osmanthus trees in the courtyard are particularly distinctive. In front of the house, there was originally a large drying yard, used for drying rice, which indicates the family's considerable rice production at the time. Following the high-speed rail acquisition and development, this area became a children's park. While the building was preserved, parts of the drying yard were repurposed as road land. The nearby environment has completely changed from its past, now dominated by high-rise buildings. The preservation of this traditional building within the urban area serves as a testament to its historical development.
