Passing the Zhudong Train Station roundabout, a towering giant tree stands prominently nearby – this is the Zhudong Forestry Exhibition Hall. The forestry industry was one of the early drivers of Zhudong's prosperity, and during the Japanese occupation period, it became a major "timber distribution center." A large number of engineers, timber merchants, and loggers gathered here, transforming Zhudong into a bustling timber town with constant merchant activity and traffic. As you follow the giant tree sign and enter, you'll be greeted by an old Japanese-style wooden building and courtyard. Forestry was once one of the industries that brought prosperity to Zhudong Township, holding immense historical significance. The Forestry Exhibition Hall works closely with local culture, aiming to help future generations understand this important historical development of Zhudong Township and enhance environmental education on topics such as soil and water conservation and forest protection. Today, the exterior is a wooden building exuding a retro charm, appearing simple and rustic. Inside, however, a variety of early forestry tools and equipment are preserved, with historical work explained through illustrated texts. This allows visitors to feel as if they are stepping back in time, witnessing the prosperity and decline of Zhudong's forestry industry.
